Manna Ministries - a joint effort by Leland area churches to provide food for local people in is off to a great start, but more and continuous help and support are needed. Food distribution is the third Saturday of each month - when the food stamps run out, according to Pastor Jay Merritt.

The quickest way to help, or contribute, is to contact Pastor Jay Merritt of Victory Free Will Baptist Church, host site of Manna Ministries, 910-371-6424.

Manna Ministries had a number of exciting things happen in the last month.


· We distributed groceries to over 150 families

· We are continuing to distribute bread on a daily basis. Donations are going to Leland Elementary, The Senior Centers in Leland and North West, Head Start, Johnson Chapel AME Zion, Leland Christian Academy, Leland Family Literacy Center, Leland Church of God, and individual neighborhoods and gathering places.

· We received over a ton of donated food. Thanks to everyone, especially First Baptist and Magnolia Greens

· We got on the news – (click for link)

· We made connections with more volunteer organizations and churches

· Dozens of new volunteers stopped in to help for the first time

· We will be distributing Easter Dinners to an estimated 200 families from noon to 1pm Saturday, April 11. Thanks to Building Ministries of Ocean Isle Beach

· We are going to have 2 distribution days a month starting in May – (see link for updated schedule)

· The BFA Stop Hunger Now campaign was begun, allowing food drop offs at county and emergency facilities

· Dozens of families received assistance from BFA during their Tuesday afternoon hours at Victory.



The Leland Area April drive begins NOW!



Our food distribution is April 18th from 9 am to 11 am at Victory Church in Leland.

Volunteers need to come between 8 am and 8:30 am and park at the Leland Church of God across the street.

EXAMPLES OF ITEMS NEEDED:

• Canned meats (tuna, stew, chili, Spam, salmon, etc.)
• Canned or dry beans (pinto, navy, kidney, pork and beans, baked, etc.)
• Peanut butter
• Cereal, oatmeal and grits
• Canned vegetables and fruit
• Fruit juices in boxes
• Boxed potatoes
• Dried fruits
• Canned soups, ramen noodles
• Macaroni and cheese
• Pasta, noodles, rice, pasta sauce


Drop off sites include:

Riegelwood Federal Credit Union at 2065 Andrew Jackson Hwy, Walgreens at Magnolia Greens, North Brunswick Area Fire Departments, Leland Public Library, North Brunswick Lions Club, Victory Church on Wayne Street, Closer Walk Office (behind La Costa), Leland Church of God on Wayne Street, First Baptist Church of Leland on Village Road, Johnson Chapel AME Zion on Lincoln Drive, Light of the World Youth, Crosswinds Church in Waterford.
